If Cricket is based on you as a child, does that mean Tilly is based on Shane?
The likeness is uncanny…

As a former weird girl (now odd adult) from a farm in Oklahoma, with the last name Green, this show means alot! I find myself identifying with bunches of my pre-teen experiences with Tilly! I watch the new episodes with my dad and younger brother. I love when we point each other out in the show! Thank you for so much for your art! I also adore the possum/raccoon representation! I simply had to share some photos of my little outdoor darlings black-strap-molasses and chunky-heart with ya'! I would include baby-sundae, but he knows what he did.
I wish you truly the best in whatever you may do! Goodnightey!
Your last name is Green, you’ve got a younger brother, and you’ve befriended three opossums and gave them silly names?? Am I talking to some kinda alternative reality Tilly Green?? Amazing… Thanks for watching BCG!
And thank for the pics. Chunky-heart will always have a special place in my chunky heart.

Why do Owl House fans hate Big City Greens so much?
WHO knows? Is that even true?
People are allowed to like and dislike whatever they want. A ton of people love BCG and I’m super grateful for that. Also, BCG and TOH are pretty different shows so it’d make sense that they might attract different crowds. That’s ok!

hiya chris!
i’m not sure if this has been answered in the past, but who are your favorite protagonist/side characters to either design or write?
Right now, it’s a toss up between Doug Perkins and Trey Hicks (the shirtless fella in Frilly Tilly and Bunny Farm. You’ll see more of Trey in S4).
Doug was inspired by my friend (and legendary comedy writer) Tom Gammill. Tom is also a cartoonist and I met him years ago at a National Cartoonist Society event. Like most people who meet Tom, I was immediately blown away by his incredibly unique voice. He’s painfully funny (as you can see in these delightful skits he made years ago: https://youtu.be/hsSkJvGEObY) and I knew I needed to get him to voice a character on BCG. I drew a sketch of what would eventually become Doug on a post-it and stuck it to my work cintiq, where it lived for probably 2-3 years.
Finally in S3, we fleshed out Doug Perkins with the help of the amazing writer, Nate Federman (who is now our story editor). The only thing Nate and I argued over was Doug’s name. I really wanted to name the character Tom Gammill but in retrospect, Nate was absolutely correct. (And I’m brilliant for letting him win said argument) Doug Perkins is the perfect name.
Trey is based on a guy I met a couple of years ago on vacation. He was extremely loud, confident, kind of annoying, hung out on his porch all day long smoking cigarettes, and never wore a shirt. When we were developing the town of Smalton, Trey had to go in. He’s proving to be a character we’re all enjoying to write for.

hiya chris!
what happens if gloria says the words “bingo bango” does she just explode or does she get launched into the air
Launched, then explodes (but pretty, like a firework)

hey chris!
it’s really amazing seeing the themes of accepting someone into a family that isn’t their own by birth, but by choice. i really enjoyed the dynamic of how gloria has built an older-sisteresque relationship towards the kids and even a third child to bill and nancy throughout the show. will we have more of these moments between the greens and gloria in season 4?
There’s certainly more Gloria in S4! I also love that dynamic and we all missed watching Gloria interact with the Greens when they were living in Smalton. But the Greens are back in Big City and there’s nothing Gloria can do about that!!

hello chris!
what was the most emotional episode to work on in season 3?
Oh man, it’s a toss up between Dirt Jar, The Move, and Long Goodbye because they all deal with the themes of home, change, and growth.
From the very beginning of the series, Shane and I wanted at some point to explore the strange and difficult feelings of homesickness and try to answer the question, “what makes a place feel like home?”
It’s only natural that when you move somewhere new, you miss the old. However, it’s interesting that homesickness isn’t necessarily resolved when you visit (or move back to) your old home. The new place doesn’t quite feel like it’s replaced the old one and yet, the old place is now somehow forever changed. And on top of that, you’ve changed as well. There’s grief in that. But also, growth.
We couldn’t explore these themes in “Welcome Home” because we needed Cricket and Tilly to be excited about what they were gaining by moving to Big City. After all, there’s lots to be gained by a big exciting move! But it’s only half of the story. I’m so glad we were able to “look back” and dig even deeper into these complicated feelings in season 3.
jwcartoonist asked:
How difficult is it working on a show and working on a movie based on said show at the same time?
It’s been the biggest challenge of my career! There’s no real training for running two productions at once but Shane, myself, and our amazing team have been “building the plane as we fly it.” It’s been exhilarating, exhausting, hilarious, stressful, wonderful, challenging, and everything in-between!
